I recently replaced my 3310 carb body with a Proform body, and last time I had it running ( a week before XMas) it started fine. This past weekend I tried to fire it up,and didn't even get a pop. I cranked till the battery started showing signs of strain, and then quit for the day. (It's a DieHard Gold,so it cranked for a looooooong time.) I noticed the temps that day were around 18 degrees,so I got frustrated and gave up.
Today I get home, temps are around 40 so I give it a try. A few pops, stalls, and it's running. I never charged the battery or anything. I'm just curious how others deal with cold temps without a choke on the carb. I never remember having trouble with the stock Holley body, and though it had a manual choke, I never used it.

I have to turn the idle screw all the way in and use ether to get her going. I haven't started my vette in a about the same time as you. Might try this weekend.
Cold or not, ether is handy to have when you are not driving on a frequent basis - for you guys, winter, for me summer when a 30 minute drive with the top down will fry your brains
I like to fire it up once in a while just to slash oil around inside the engine, and of course to feel the raw power.(Somehow the Olds don't cut it.)In the past I've never used ether.....prefer beer, but I guess I'm willing to try anything once.
at work ether created a dependency in my diesel engines,i used ether only as a last resort,i had a supervisor get annoyed at the amount of Oman Diesel pumps we went thru that year, we had a new one that stopped soon after we got it in,he happened to be on location & he used ether to keep it running, the motor played out completely before the can of starting fluid was gone. at home i use WD-40 if i need to give a small engine with side draft carb a lil pep to start, or pour a tad fuel straight in the gullet on a carb with topside inlet. with the advent of PB'Laster & kroil that's about all WD-40 is good for anymore, unless you want to lube or disperse water from a conductive electrical part. WD-40's name came from its intended use and manhours to create it, WaterDispersant-40 it took them 40 hours to create the concoction.
