Just had a new radio installed in my car 81. Noticed that the light in the image of a battery on the dash is on. At first, I thought it was that the battery needed to be charged because while installing the radio they left the car on for sometime. I drove the car home almost 15 miles and the light is still on.
If the light was out when you went down there, and it is on now. I can only assume at this point.
They hooked the amp up to the alt, and did not tighten the connection.
They unplugged/disturbed the field coil connection plug.
They f____d your wiring up.(My vote)
If they ran the battery down, the light would go off as soon as the alt put out more than the battery.
It's possible that a diode in your alternator died too. Stuff happend. If you have a gauge and it's at 13, and the light is on too, I'd vote for a diode.
Check the contacts in the circuit board. They seperate from the plastic membrane very easily. It is possible that the bat. light contact has seperated and is now in contact with another +12 volt contact. Every time I take the center cluster out I check those contacts. A little super glue will reattach the contact to the plastic. Just make sure the glue is used carefully. Eric
