Purchased a "GM replacement" urethane rear bumper for my '76 from Eckler's. Their catalog said it would fit '75-'79 models. Went to install it yesterday and the license plate light won't mount on it. The fixture has one light and two mounting screws that are about 3" apart. The bumper has two openings for two(?) lights and two mounting holes that are like 4" or 5" apart. What gives!? :mad:

This just tops the list of problems I've had with Eckler's! First, I ordered a replacement front bumper back on 8/31 and it arrived damaged! After weeks of waiting, they finally pick it up but have yet to ship out another one.

Then, while preparing to install the rear bumper yesterday, I discover that they sent me the wrong retainer for the front (I got a center when I asked for a LH upper).

Anyone else have problems with these bozos? How about suggestions to correct the fit problem between the bumper and license plate fixture?

I am not a fan of Eckler's either....But I never gave them a second chance...Can't say I am suprised though :crazy:

Send it back and find a Truflex from another vendor. It won't fit any better but it may be closer to the correct bumper for your 76. There is no way a single 75-79 bumper can match all the different bumpers on those model years.

'75-'79 bumpers are not all the same. You got a generic replacment and will need to adapt and modify.

Truflex does a decent job with the small details from year to year. I noticed the '74 has the correct dividing line. My '75 had the correct indents for each letter. I believe the '76 has the different size indents for the lettering that year.
Holes for the tail lights and license plate light are already cut out for you.
No waves or ripples at all.

Downside is you need to remove the internal rubber bumper pads in order for the Truflex to fit. Seems like they made them an inch too short.

See, that´s the reason why I went with fiberglass parts. Resin and bondo are my new friends since bodyrestoration has begun.
I´d suggest, make a custom adapter or something....
