Default 1979 C3 Owners - Wiring problem???

Ok...I've tracked down a majority of the wiring after ripping out my dash replacing all new gauge clusters, and a new circuit board for the tachometer. However, I still cannot get the tach to work correctly. The tach filter was not good so I took that out and just ran straight. Still nothing. Does someone have some tips? Do I run new wiring? What are the color schemes from the wiring harnesses that plug into the back of the speed/tach gauge cluster? That might help me a little better. I have two plugs in the back of the speed/gauge bezel. Anyone have any suggestions? I would post pics...but I don't think it would help much sense most of the work has to be done crawling up under the dash, and using an ohms meter.

i have a '79 and i only have one plug in the bezel. i had to run another ground when my tach failed. i had my bezel removed so i feel your pain. my suggestion to you would be to pull the bezel and trouble shoot. i found fault in my wiring between fuse and bezel plug and bypassed it. i actually took the bolts out of my fuse box to remove it and replace the faulty wire. it didn't want to move so i gave up that idea and ran another wire altogether.

On my 78', there is a pink wire that comes from the "gauges fuse" to the electronic circuit board on the back of the tach. From this circuit board, a black wire goes to ground and the white wire goes to the tach terminal on the distributor cap. Your 79' should be the same.

Default Thanks guys!

I was thinking of pulling the fuse box as well....but wanted to get some consulting here. Am I naive...or does anyone else think that if they make a post someone will give them a simple solution :o

When you replaced the circuit board, how do you get the metal flaps behind the tach off to remove the circuit board and then back on? Are there instructions available somewhere?

Thanks!
