Speed Direct offers a kit that modifies the PS pump and reduces the pressure which will give you more road feel. However, I don't think they list the kit in there catalog. I learned about it by talking with the tech department.

i have steeroids also i don't think you can change the feel unless you change a valve inside the rack unit. from what i read changing the flow really doesn't do anything.

I put a steeroids in my 65. I had the same issue. It had too much assist. I called steeroids and got the flow control valve kit, about $20. It was easy to install. The valve is in the pump. The pressure line attaches to it. Just remove it, use the tool in the kit to remove the relief bolt and install the supplied shims. I put all 5 shims in mine. Much better! The directions show a remote reservoir pump but it fits the attached reservoir pumps.

Wow, that's good to know. First I'd heard about that.

so you just unhooked the PS pump and switched the valve on your work bench and then put it back in? is there room to do this when its in the car.

Default Restrictor

I did it on the cheap. Take a short piece of scrap steel tubing & put it in the hose as a flow restrictor. I put a small flare on the end of the tubing so it won't go too far in. Also went to a smaller steering wheel. It adds leg room & reduces the leverage for better road feel . Works great.

Please explain more about your do-it-yourself restrictor.
How long?
What I.D./O.D.?
What material (copper or steel)?

Default restrictor

I just used a short piece of steel brake line about an inch or inch & one half long. I just put a partial flare on one end so it wouldn't go down in the line in case I wanted to change it. Heidt's Rod Shop makes an adjustable valve if you want precise control. I have one but the restrictor is fine. Don't use tubing that's too small. A very small (thin wall) piece is enough. For Example.... Calculate the area of 3/8 & 1/2 inch fuel line. The 1/2 is about twice as big. A little is enough. I don't recall the actual size of the restrictor tubing, just has to fit in the p. s. hose. The smaller steering wheel also helps. Take a string & hold it down with your left thumb on the center of the steering shaft. SWtreach it over to the right & hold it on the steering wheel with the right thumb. Turn the wheel 6 inches. Measure how much the shaft has turned. Now do the same thing with a 13 1/2 inch wheel. When you measure you find the shaft has turned much more. The small wheel has less leverage which means more effort & more road feel.

Yep.
That's pretty much it. I am using a Zoops pump mount and I did it with the pump on the car as you said. Just remove the line, remove the fitting the line attaches to. That fitting is the flow control valve. You get a new o-ring for the valve in the kit. The shims allow the the valve to bleed pressure off within the pump. The same way it works normally. Just bleeds more off. To me that is a better way to adjust the pressure than restricting the flow. IMO.
