Last summer, my steering system was pretty much shot. The ram leaked like a sieve and the valve had too much wear in it to rebuild, so I replaced both of them and all the hoses with a rebuilt kit from Volunteer Vette Products.
I cannot seem to get it adjusted right though. Ever since the replacement, it has been much harder to turn the wheel and there is a dead zone of about 3-5 degrees from one side to the other.
Any suggestions on what might be the problem? I top off the fluid on a fairly regular basis. It doesn't seem to be leaking, so I am not sure if it is actually leaking or if it just isn't finished bleeding yet.
Some of these rebuilt components might not be good. Common problems of hard steering are a bad pump or ram. But, it also could be the valve. When you turn it all the way to lock and force it further, do you hear the pump growl or the engine RPM drop?
