front & rear bumper paint preping
im in the process of starting to get my 1980L-82 ready for painting..ive decided to do a little body preping my-self to save money..im probably just gonna sand the body over a bit with 400 to smooth the surface as sugested by another forum member..the front and rear bumpers are a diffrent story..they are in need of a complete stripping..now they are not fiberglass so is there a stripper that will strip the paint without hurting them?? if not what would u all sugest..also has anyone used a da sander with any good results or just the hand sanding process to be safe?

Re: front & rear bumper paint preping (1980 razz)
Used a stripper made by Bull Dog co. which is designed for Urethane
Bumpers. It took 2 1/2 cans to do the back bumper on my 1980.
Worked very well with no damage to the bumper. To use it, loosen
all the mounting screws around the bumper. Remove the taillights and
license light. Pull the bumper back so there is a gap between the edge
of the bumper and the rear fenders and back panel. Tape the back
of the car to protect the paint from the stripper. Then use the stripper.
If needed you can use this method to just strip and refinish a bumper
without touching the paint on the car. For painting, the bumper needs
to be loosened anyway so that the paint can flow around the edge of the
bumper.
