What ever happened to the guys who bought the frame dent removal tool? Did it work? I know one member had to modify it slightly so it would fit. There was some talk about "renting" the tool once they were done with it. I am going to be at a point in a week or so to be able to get the dent out. Anyone have any info?
I ended up doing the same as this fella http://www.corvette-restoration.com/
I cut out the dented section, welded in some ribs then welded 10gauge plate on top. Looks stock except for the holes and is much stronger
Hi Gordon,
I was the one who bought the tool and promised to photo-log and time the job, then share it here with the members. I will also make the tool available to any member who needs it.
My delay was in getting my car back from the paint shop. It arrived this week and today I went out to start the job. Everything went fine until I slid the tool into place and found it did not fit. It would not align with the access/bolt hole. It seems to be off about half the thickness of the bolt diameter so it cannot be pryed into place.
I have isolated the problem as to why it doesn't fit some cars. The "shoe" part of the tool seems to be too thick to fit into the area of the frame which has the factory "dent" to accomodate the big block pulleys. I don't want to alter the tool to make it fit so I've just clocked off the job until I hear from Terry. I've e-mailed Terry and i'm waiting for his call back now.
I'll re-post as soon as I speak with him.
Best,
Greg
I bought the tool also but it's winter here in Michigan and I haven't had a chance to get to the garage. As I understand it, the upper control arm needs to come off to gain access to the center of the x-member to insert the tool. The tool appears to be robust and very well made. I will also let anyone "rent" it when I'm done.
