From: Arizona - If you don’t know CFI, STOP proliferating the myths around it...
I've had my 82 for 13 years now and it is a nice car and still love the C3body style. Crossfire cars can be a PITA if you don't understand how they work in regards to the TBs and few other querks. However,, once you get it setup correctly, they are very reliable running cars that get great mpg on the highway in OD. I was getting 26mpg at 70mph on a cruise.
My 82 isn't even close to stock anymore even though I tried to maintain the stock look as much as possible to fool the C5/C6 guys. The car now sports a 383ci motor with tons of goodies. The car is also getting a new paint job inside and out along with an interior makeover for the last time until death do us part thing. I'm doing all the work myself and almost finished. Good luck on your choice and keep the wave.
My next project is a 2003 Z06 parked next to the 82...

I have a 82. I didn't like the performance.....and spent a lot to change it.
If I had to do it over again....it would be a 80 with a 4 speed. I just don't like auto's in a sports car. I'm not a big fan of the 700r4 because of the 1st gear, and I can cruise the hyways with a 5 speed stick.(just me, tho)

Anyone got any good shots of the 82 intake ported?
I just went to the CFI Vault, plenty there on the head porting, so I guess I dont need any pics, but do have a question:
What are some HP claims with keeping it simple, as in:
-simple intake porting
-cam upgrade
-62cc heads
-85+ fuel pump
Hope this isnt too much of a hijack.
Brent.....
I have been told that you can get 300 plus HP out of a cam, 64cc heads, ported intake, and highflow exhaust. The good thing is with this set up its computer friendly. From what I hear that is.
I would like a 1982 some day. Even cooler would be to drop a 5 or 6 speed manual transmission in one. With two small air cleaners, the cross-fire intake is definitely a good-looking piece when you pop the hood, even if it is limited in the ultimate amount of power you can get out - perhaps by the size of the intake runners. There is an after-market intake that folks get to boost the power a bit (Cross-X or Vara-Ram or something like that) and I am sure that is discussed over on the '82 forums.
No emissions for me either so eventually headers, no cat and true duals would be installed. Just trying to anticipate any problems and think ahead.

Thats exactly how I have my 82 set up. No emissions, true dual straight pipes(no cats). Hypertech performance chip(noticable diff in performance and tranny shifts). Headers are next. Enjoy your 82, I've enjoyed mine without any problems at all.
All I can comment on is the crossfire injection as I have a 84, a 4+3 Z51 packaged Vette. I bought it for my wife as she was looking at a 84 Fiero and I almost came unglued and said it you want another plastic car get a new Vette. She drove it for the first few thousand miles before I got my hands on it after I got her a 86 with a automatic when they came out. The 84 was the slowest car I have ever driven. What did liven it up was a GM 151 camshaft after which we then cut the converters out and bent up a set of duals from the engine back. I found nothing wrong with the crossfire as it is very similar to the crossram carbed Z28`s. It finally with those few changes began to act like a real Vette.
I own an 82 and I love it. You can't beat the MPG,it real torquey, has many standard options. I have had no problems w/ the crossfire FI but I have had some problems w/ the trans. The good news is most 82s have rebuilt upgraded trans already installed!

I can smoke the tires from a rolling start with my '82 so I can vouch for the torque. The ride is comfortable also, so I'm enjoying the best of both worlds.
The biggest problem with the CFI setup (or so I've been told by C3 experts) is that a lot of them that have survived were ruined by previous owners who thought they could improve performance by removing key components.
