Default 454 intakes

I am thinking about switching my intakes, there has been alot of talk recently about duel plane intakes losing power in the higher rpms, but I have been told that my crate 454's max hp is at 5000 rpm and it should not be taken past 5500 rpm so would a duel plane intake really hurt me that much? also would it be to much torque with the 3.73 gears in the back?
thanks

If you are running a flat hood, the only aftermarket intake that fits is the Edelbrock Torker II single plane.

I think for a just about any good street big block a dual plane is preferred. The saving grace for running a single plane on a 454 is that it has enough bottom end torque to begin with that if it loses a little it's still very driveable, albeit most of the time your low speed driveability won't be nearly as good as it would have been with a dual plane. All dual planes shouldn't be lumped together just like all single planes shouldn't be lumped together, there are some compromise intakes out there, such as Performer RPM's and weiand Stealth's for example, the RPM has a space in the plenum devider so that the fuel air distribution is somewhat similiar to a single plane at higher RPM's but keeps it's low speed response like a dual plane. The Stealth intake does this a little differently, it is an unrelieved dual plane but it runs a large plenum area to help it's high RPM breathing. These are the two intakes I've been eyeing lately, I want all my power between 2000-5500 rpm with a very strong midrange with good upper and lower RPM response and power. Unfortunately any descent dual plane on one of these engines will almost require a different hood for clearance such as an L-88 or similiar high rise design, this is the main reason I haven't popped one on yet.
