I had a MSD dist installed n the timing was off so I took her back to my mechanic today n he upped the timing to 14 I believe n as I drove her home she still pinged..Progresively getting worse....So what should the timing be at or is there another problem...Thanx...Jerrylee///

Look at the stickey above. Lot's of good stuff. E-mail Lars for a copy.
Was it pinging before he "upped it to 14" ? If so, he should have tried the other direction. Is this a stock engine?
Yes it was pinging...n the engine is a complete 454 rebuild....Crazy as it might be the pinging wasn't that bad at 1st today but it seemed to get worse as I drove her...Thanx...Jerrylee///
Try retarding the timing a little. How is the engine temp? If pinging gets worse as you drive, it might be a heat issue. Do you have an EGR and is it hooked up properly?
It's funny u should ask...I'm also having a rise in my temps which I never had before...They never passed 190 in my cockpit gauge n since yesterday they have hit 215.....
Fire your "mechanic" and get someone who knows what they are doing. Upping the timing on an engine that already pings is just going to make it worse. Read the sticky on top about timing. You need to find out what your toatl timing is. Initial does not mean much since you are only running that at idle.
