I'm in the process of installing a new power brake booster in a '77. I would like to turn it 180 degrees so that the vacuum check valve would be in the lower left (drivers side) corner instead of the stock upper right corner. With a slight rerouting of vacuum hoses, this will help clean up the engine compartment.
Will the brake booster runction upside down? Are there any other problems with this modificatiom?
To me it seems unnecessary to do this. How much are you really cleaning up by rerouting one hose? If it was me I'd put it back the way the factory meant it to be and it would not look Bubbafied. If you want to make a cleaner look under the hood you can buy plastic wire conduit to run your wires and vacuum lines through and that would make for a much cleaner look than re-routing your vacuum brake booster hose. just my .02.
Shouldn't be any problem turning it over, but I "think" the stud spacing is different between the top 2 and bottom 2 studs. Been a while since I had mine off and the memory ain't what it used to be.

If you want to clean that area up just run your headlight door vac lines & washer hose under the booster and up to the inner fender. A wiper arm cover helps too. I hid my wipers under mine........
The studs on the rear on the back of the booster ate symmetrical. There is no mounting problem which will physically prevent the booster from being turned over.. Is there anything inside of the booster which dictates it must be mounted in the stock "upright" position?

There is nothing in the booster that would prohibit it from being mounted upside down. The only downside might be if you were to have a leaking master cylinder and booster pushrod seal, the booster could suck brake fluid in. If the valve were at the bottom (booster upside down), you could in theory suck brake fluid into the intake.

THANKS!! I hoped that was the case but its nice to have confirmation.
