Aftermarket Oil Pans that will fit?
I'm thinking about replacing my stock oil pan (flange is distorted due to years of tightening, etc). Issue is that it is tight in there both from a space perspective and the fact that a new pan can't hang too low.
Does anyone have a Milodon or Moroso pan installed? If so, what model did you install and was there any challanges with the installation?
Thanks in advance...

i just installed the Moroso 6 quart pan. It is lower then the stock pan but does not hang down to far. My blowsheild is still the lowest part on the car. It fit very well. I did have one problem with one bolt the I could not get the socket on. I ground the head round and put in a slot so it could be tightened. I will replace it with a socket head bolt when I can. Other than that it went on no problem.
I did have to get the matching pump pickup for the pan but it is better tha n the stock one due to the pickup being bolted on. You still have to press it in but the pickup also uses the oil pump bolts with a bracket to hold the pickup on.

Milodon Oil Pan
My 78 Vette has a 1974 400 CI block (same size as a 350 block) and I have a Milodon 30700 Stock Replacement Oil Pan. I also have a one piece Fel-Pro Oil pan gasket.
The stock chevy pan is 4 qts while the stock Milodon holds 5 qts and the stock pickup can also be used.
Only thing required to install is that I had to take the two bolts out of the idler arm to drop the tie rod assembly to remove/install the pan.
It's really an easy job to do. Go to the Milodon web site for more info and part # for your engine since my dip stick is on the drivers side and I think 1980 engines are on the pass side.

I have a Milodon street/strip oil pan (kicked out sides) and it fits no problem. I used a mr gasket one piece that came with bolts. All bolts fit no problem, flanges were straight, and no leaks at all. You will have to use the pickup required for the pan and removed the idler arm from the frame as mentioned above. Make sure you get the one for your year model small block.

Learning as I go here guys... I forgot to mention that my 1980 L48 was stroked 383. Will this make a difference with any of the pans noted above?

Am digging through Jegs and Sumitt for one that isn't more than 8 1/4 deep and complete with oil pickup. Would like to get at windage tray if possible.

I bought a Canton Racing Road Race pan designed for the C4 because measuring the dimensions from the steering linkages, idler arm, power steering slave cylinder and front cross member it appears that it should fit. It is only 7" deep, holds 7 quarts including filter, has a removable one way screen windage tray and crank scraper and fits my 383's stroke with just a little bending of the crankscraper. I wanted 7 quarts to keep the oil cooler on the 475HP 383.

It is expensive though at $340 and I was very disappointed that the flanges were not straight. Even without the gasket I couldn't install all the bolts at once. After massaging the flanges with a hammer it now sits level but then I had to elongate some of the holes a little to install the bolts. I haven't yet installed the engine in the chassis but I have checked that the gear reduction starter and my Dynomax headers fit without a problem. I don't know if I made the right decision with this pan but I couldn't find anything else that had all its features. I have used Milodon pans in other vehicles and have been very impressed with their quality.

I have been looking at one of these:Hamburger 1088 Looks like it will clear everything and has magnetic drain plug, 4.00 stroke clearance, crank scraper, windage tray 8" depth, 7 quart capacity and a bolt on pickup for around $200. Clearance in a corvette is the issue. Hate to buy it and it not fit. Here are specs. Will it fit? There is one for an 80 and up on this page also.http://www.tdperformance.com/pdfs/4-7-hamburgers.pdf

I have an 80-85 passenger side dipstick block, which I assume you have. And keep in mind, 95% of the forum has a drivers side dipstick block. I also have a 383 with 6 inch rods, and I needed a stroker clearanced pan. The only pan that I could find with a 7 quart sump that was stroker clearanced was from Hamburger. There is a Mororso one but it is made for circle track racing, so it's only baffled for either LH or RH turning.
If you're interested I can dig up the part number. It has the windage tray and the crank scraper and the baffles and all of that good stuff.

Hamburger's pans are awesome. In San Diego, Kali, about 8 or 9 years ago, I had shoehorned a GenV 502 into a 68 (fabbed clutch boss and all). That stock 9" pan didn't work, as this thing was an SCCA-setup with about an inch of clearance on the sidepipes. Salley (sp?) Chevrolet (now Gilbert) said they had one pan left for this app. They shipped it, and it measured 6 7/8" at the sump! For a big block. Worked great. 4" stroke.
ie, you might want to call them. They pull in jobbers all over the country.
