rear spindle nut shop manual says 30 ft lbs van steel says 100 ft lbs which is it thanks

Not sure you can actually torque to a set number since you have to get the pin hole to align to one set of the nut grooves anyway. If the target torque is reached and pin hole is between the grooves, you have to go either way over or way under align the slot/hole to get the pin through.

The 79' GM Shop manual I have says torque to 100 Lb-ft plus additional torque to line up the cotter pin hole.

30 is for the front. The rear should be tourqued to 100. and then losened so the pin aligns.

100 is min. then line holes. If shimmed properly it will not bind the bearing.

The '69 is the same.

I agree TIGHTEN to align the hole, some have said loosen to align, but that is wrong and risky.
