I'm getting ready to install new motor 1980, got a set of Hooker header / side pipes ,, ,,have Questions on install .... Have you guys put your header is the engine bay 1st before dropping in the motor , or can your install the headers after the motor is in ,, Help much appreciated. And are there any Obsticles that I need to be aware of during Install....
Set the headers in the engine bay then install the engine. Wire them up as necessary to keep them out of the way. Makes it much easier than doing it the other way around.
I was able to install the Hookers with my car just over 14" off the ground (measured from the ground to the frame just behind the front wheel). No problems.
I think both of the above answers are correct. I added mine a few years after a engine rebuild so I had a little different situation than you. I had the car about 24" up, and they went on alot easier that I thought they would, but why jack it up if you don't have to?
You can install them before or after the engine, After may be easier, you wont have to pull them out of the way as your engine drops in.
Dont let the frame sag in any corner, that will throw the bolt up to heads dimension off a hair or two..
Heres some pics , similar jack stands as Sperkins and all the way up with everyone.
Great job, 69vettester. But what were Todd Christensen and Ken Stabler doing at your house? Or was that Kris Kristofferson and Nick Nolte? Or Terry Bradshaw and ....???lol!
