I'm looking to refurbish and perhaps upgrade my steering system. It's all stock, other than a rebuilt steering box, which was installed in the early 90s by a previous owner. The system leaks all over, and is making a mess of my undercarriage. I'm thinking of overhauling it. Other than the Steeroids system are there any alternatives? I don't really want to spend that much, but I would like the steering to be tight and leak free.
Did you install it yourself? Is it something a DIY can do?
I put it in myself, It only took me about 8 hours to remove the old stuff, clean up the area, and install the kit. It's not hard at all and doesn't require any thing special, tool wise. I don't know how much experiance you have (I have quite a bit so you're time may vary) but it's all bolt on stuff.
You could always take the power assist crap off and convert it to stock manual steering. With a tight steering box it will drive like mad. I have it and I like it!
do a search, 1 topic will pop up for sure (I wrote it)
Hey TT, I just read your thread about the FR kit. Did any of the issues get resolved, and how did it finish up ( including the bump steer)? I had no install problems with my Steeroids kit but I do agree about the mounts, I plan on reinforcing it and eliminating the rubber bushings. My car is still in project purgatory, so I havn't done it yet, but it's on the list. That said, most people won't push their cars as hard as we will/do so it's not as much an issue for the average driver.
