Is there a trick to bringing back that new-car solid "thud" sound when closing the door?
Can the "clank" be fixed by simply retightening the all screws beneath the door panels? Or is there like a new bushing kit? I have installed new window and door channeling and it' still clanky. Perhaps the doors on these cars have always sounded like this new?

Maybe your door(s) is (are) sagging, I know mine on the drivers side is: it hits the top of the wheelarch/-well causing a clunk/thud. The passengerside just closes with a 'click' like SEVNT6 described.
Besides that, not having any loose parts in the doors and adding some sound deadening material behind the doorpanel also helps. Here's a recent post on someone using tape and some other stuff in his doors: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1631803
