Default Cam Spec for a 75

Anyone know where I can find the specs on the stock cam in my L48. I wanted to compare it to some of the new cams I was looking at.

Tony,

This cam is so mild iit should be illegal to install it in a Corvette. My Crane Energizer has 216 @ .050" lift both intake and exhaust and tops out at .454" lift on both sides. Not the latest tech but not bad for $70. Works real well with the headers and Performer manifold.
Don't give up anything below 2000 rpm but above it it really pulls. Little lope at idle but not bad. Also pulls down 18-20 mpg on the highway.

Yeah I'm not sure what all the numbers mean but when
you compare it to the others you can see how mild it is.
Thanks Steve I'll keep the Crane on my list. I can't wait.

Recommend Comp Cams XE262. Very popular on the forum with the small blocks. Will require upgrade over stock springs. Their website http://www.competitioncams.com has lots of info. Worth checking out before you decide.

Thanks for the website. I was thinking more of the XE256 but I'll call around and see what the manufacturers recommend.

Tony

Have rec. many times- Comp Cams XE262 or CS268 if you drive hard for 4spd. !
Comp Cams CS268HE or Crane version mentioned above will work w/ stock valve springs. Comp Cams XE262 is similar, needs matching springs.

Does anyone know how to read the website chart listed above? I'm used to duration at .050". The chart looks different then the cam specs listed by Comp cams or crane? And I'm a newbie with cams anyway.

Ganey,
You don't think the XE262 is too much for my stock bottom end? Thats really my only concern with it.

Here's a little chart I put together to help me decided on which cam I wanted to buy.

0.050" 0.050"
Lift Duration

Comp Cams 260H .440/.440 212/212
Comp Cams XE256 .447/.454 212/218
Stock L82 .450/.460 222/222
Comp Cams 268H .454/.454 218/218
Comp Cams XE262H .462/.469 218/224
Comp Cams XE268H .477/.480 224/230

If I was you, I'd at least go with a L82 or better cam - say a 268H.

[Modified by KenSny, 9:39 AM 10/10/2001]

Well it does not like the use of tabs or spaces so the columns are Cam ID, 0.050" Lift, and 0.050" Duration..

No, XE262 should be fine. Have seen 268H 350 still able to turn 6000 w/ stock valve springs at over 100k. No need to do that, will be all done by about 5200-5500 depending on your setup. (XE256 has more low end, good for stock auto., off idle & smooth idle.) Stock L-48 cam is in 190s @ .050.

The Comp Cams are 110 LS & stock L-82 is 114.

Thnks Ganey I appreciate the info. I just didn't want to overdue it. But I also don't want to sell my engine short (so to speak).
