Default bearings

could someone tell me how often a fella should repack their front wheel bearings.i took dust cap off and there is grease in the bearings.or is that a once in a life time thing.

I dont know what the official book says but in my case if it was a dailey driver I would repack them atleast once a year. There is a special way to repack the bearings if you have the tool it is easy if not I was always taught to put the grease in the palm of my hand and push the old grease out from one side to the other until the old grease is purged out.

You HAVE to remove all the old grease first.Soak the bearings in mineral spirits until all the grease is gone. Dry them out, then inspect them for burn marks, or any other problems. Also inspect the races. If they are OK, repack them, pushing the grease in from the back side with the palm of your hand until full, then reinstall with new seals. If you only drive 2-3 thousand miles a year, repacking every 4 or 5 years is plenty.

i spray the bearings out with carb cleaner to get all the crud out of them.
