GUYS- JUST INSTALLED A PASS. SIDE CHROME MIRROR ON MY 76'.
IT LOOKS GREAT BUT SEEMS TO BE A LITTLE LOOSE WHERE THE
MIRROR PART CONNECTS TO THE STALK ( PIVOT BALL). IT IS LOOSE
ENOUGH THAT WHEN YOU SLAM THE DOOR THE MIRROR WILL MOVE
OUT OF POSITION. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO CORRECT THIS?
THANX WADE
Remove it from its bracket on the car and turn it the opposite way that it normally sits. Then use a hammer and a center punch to carefully put some nice dings on the ball to create more resistance. Reinstall and reposition your mirror; it should stay put for quite a while but may need another 'treatment' later on. :D :seeya
Another fix is to take the mirror out of the frame and tighten the metal strap. soak the mirror head in some laquer thinner overnight. You can then pop the glass out without breaking it. Use a punch on the two outside pins to tighten the metal strap. Use Automotive Goo or some such to glue mirror back on Mirror head will then be very tight.
Had the same problems and tried all the tricks including epoxy but nothing
held it at highway speed. Out of exasperation I turned the mirror upside down and never had a problem since.
