A "test" Are you going to compare them to the spals. I looked at both but went cheaper with the mark viii but would love to know how it really stacks up

Tom be carefull what you buy. The MarkVIII fans have a white harness plug, I am not 100% sure that they all do but its what I was told. You can also verify the fan with the part number, they are selling thunderbird fans as Mark VIII fans (e-bay), the thunderbird fans move less air, the cheapest place to get them is on ebay. Someone possted a test that was conducted on these fans and the thunderbird fan moves near 4000 cfm and the Mark VIII was neat 4800 cfms.
What type of test are you planing?
While you're in the market for the MarkVIII, grab a 17" Taurus fan too. It supposedly has the same motor as the MarkVIII fan but with a slightly smaller blade diameter and smaller shroud.
Rock auto.com used to have a great price on them but I heard when everybody started buying them up, rock auto raised the price up. I bought one about 2 years ago and think I paid 150 bucks for it, now they are almost 200.

I am going to send it to Spal's lab. Have them confirm the actual CFM and amp draw at several different levels. I was recently accused of being a moron in a different thread and I'd like to have the facts regarding this fans performance.

There are a few different versions of the fan. The last one (I think 97-98 Mark VIIIs) is the most powerful (although all of them move crazy air).

He seemed to put an unusual emphasis on that one word.

Somehow I doubt a single motor fan of 16+ diameter will develop more airflow than the present Dual Spal setup.....the rough guess of area of two 11" spals is 190 sq inches...and a 16 inch fan alone is 200 inches....
so IF you can have a single motor that sux as well, has the torque and power to spin the blades fast enough, and all the rest of that unknown stuff.....you may well beat a dual spal setup.....
but from observations involving my old '87 vette 16" fan and the airflow of my new dual spal setup....I have a really significant airflow increase, and I can note the increased power drain on my alternator, also....
I wait for 90-100f temps soon enuff for a acid test....but from preliminary observations, it's a whole lot better, by a wide margin....
Just a passing observation ... NOT facts ... but observations:
I've put belts & tensioners on BOTH of these so I have a pretty good take on what's there & what it looks like. They both have elec fan.
Comparing my 98 town Car & my pal's 98(?) continental ... I think his is a Mk8(?)...anyway ...
My towncar has longitudinal 4.6 16valve SOHC and makes about 200hp.
His Cont has 4.6 also ... but it's transverse & has 32 valves & DOHC & makes nearly 75 more hp ... 75 more hp out of virtually same package means it makes more heat too. His radiator seems no bigger than the town car's ... actually seems a bit smaller than town car rad. The conti seems little more than a fancy taurus ... AFAIK platform is same or very similar ... except for conti's high-hp DOHC V8.
I would assume his Conti would require more fan than the town car. With similar grille opening & probably similar rad size ... I would also assume the lower power taurus would require less fan than conti.
