TH400 Deep pan question...
Can I just use the standard filter or do I need an different filter?
If it's a different filter, part number?

You can use the standard filter, but you must attach it to a longer pickup to reach the bottom of the pan.

Does it need to reach the bottom?
I understand that the fluid will actually be cooler near the bottom but with the extra capacity the fluid will be cooler anyway.

Any top:bottom temp gradient will be insignificant ... remember, the fluid is just that ... it's fluid & moving about.
Use a stock filter & install it as stock.
If there isn't a magnet in bottom of pan ... install one.
Dunno how deep the pan is ... but keep in mind a C3 & it's OE pan is already low.
Instead of a deeper pan ... suggest you'd be better off with an auxiliary cooler.

We used to use the T-400 truck pans and they used a longer pickup tube/bolt to lower filter to bottom. Uses same filter.

You should really extend the pickup so it reaches the bottom or you really haven't increased the capacity at all. It doesn't matter if you have 50 quarts below the pickup.....once enough fluid is in circulation to expose the pickup, you're screwed.
