Radiator drain / flush question.
I am attempting to drain the radiator. I flushed it with water and removed the lower plug in the radiator. How necessary is it to remove the plugs from the block, and where are they? Also, is there a flush that is non corrosive. I dont want to use anything that may cause damage to the radiator and water pump. I see a little sludge in the thermostat housing, but the radiator looks in pretty good shape from what I can see looking into the fill neck. The car sat for a few years. I have new hoses, and a new thermostat to install.
If your water pump is old, no matter mileage, may consider replacing. They are cheap, $ 45, wrecker call on side of interstate half way to Bowling Green ain't cheap!

There is 1 drain 1/4" npt plug on each side of the block that should be used to flush and drain the block. It's a time consuming procedure that is well worth doing properly.
If your componants can't survive a proper flush, then they will fail on you anyway.
