Default Lower Control Arm Torque Spec?

Hi Folks,

Did some searches and perused all the relevant manuals and can't seem to come up with the end-bolt to cross shaft torque specification for the lower control arms. The upper is 60 ft. lbs. - same for the lower?

Many thanks,
Steve

According to my GM service manual it is 50 ft. lbs and that is with the suspension at ride height.

Necessary for rubber bushings, poly can be tightened while hanging.

What spec do you have for the uppers? I got an unexpected response from VanSteel (that rebuilt the control arms, poly bushings) recommending 35 ft lbs for the upper, 50 for the bottom. I already torqued the uppers to 60 ft. lbs. based on the Shop Manual. Think this will pose a problem?

Thanks, Steve

My manual says 40 ft. lbs for the "collar bolts" which I assume are the bushing bolts. The only other spec is 50 ft. lbs for the attaching nuts. 60 ft. lbs seems like a lot to me. It's only a 3/4-24 bolt, isn't it? 35 to 40 is closer to normal for a bolt like that.

Thanks, not sure what the size of the bolt is, only remember it's a 9/16 head. Your spec follows what VanSteel recommends.

The bolts for the uppers have been Loc-Tited (271) and torqued to 60ft. lbs. which is listed in the front suspension section of the shop manual as "Upper Control Arm Shaft (End Nuts): 60' #". The control arms are in place so access to the end bolts, especially the ones near the radiator shroud, is real tight. At this point I'm not sure I could back off on the torques if I wanted to. Should I worry about the bolts being overtorqued? What's the risk (ie reduced mobility of the control arm, premature wear of the poly bushing, snapping off of bolt heads, other ??)

Thoughts?

Thanks, Steve
