I'm looking at using some LS1 camaro front calipers on a custom brake application for another vehicle of mine and have a question that someone might be able to help me out with.
The rotors I'm looking at using are .3" thinner than the stock camaro rotors. Would I be able to use the calipers as they are without having to worry about the extra travel? Or would I have to put a shim in to make up the difference? I'm sure that it would be fine until the pads got worn down, but then...???
I think you will need to shim them. Your observation about what would happen when the pads wore down is a concern since the pistons would be extended (perhaps too far).
I'll probably weld material on the inside, and machine it flat. Then remove material on the outside of the caliper as to move it in .3" Shouldn't be all that bad...
