When I turn the car off the key doesnt turn back far enough to remove it from the column. I'll assume theres an adjustment somewhere. I do know the shifter linkage needs work but it does shift (roughly) into all the gears....
There is a cable coming from the reverse lever on your transmission. It comes up and attaches to a lever on the lower end of the steering column. If you open your hood, the lever can be seen just under the brake booster.
That column lever has to be in the full UP position in order for you to be able to rotate your ignition lock cylinder all the way to OFF-LOCK or ACCESSORY.
The cable could have become disconnected. The cable could be frozen from age. Bubba may have disabled the cable. Or any number of things in the last 30 some years.
