Looking for member in Texas developing muffler for Hooker Sidepipe!!!!!!
I would like to find the gentleman who answered my post a few months back about mufflers. You were developing some and I have lost your email address. Would you please email me. I'm interested in your progress on them.
Thanks,
Chad

Spiral Turbo Specialties makes a REAL nice insert for the Hookers. There's a guy from Alabama with a '69 BB roadster who was going to make up sidepipes with external mufflers for the Hooker setup, too. Do a search for "JCL" in C-3 Corvettes.

I don't know if I responded to your post, but I'm going to make some mufflers for my Hooker side pipes and I live in Texas.
Currently, I'm looking at fabbing either some Car Chemistry inserts or 3" glasspacks from HeartThrob exhaust. If I go with the glasspacks, I'll either do a special order of just the core tube and some fiberglass packing or buy the off-the-shelf muffler and cut up the case so it will fit.
My concern with CC inserts is that I read a review and they said that when cold, the sound is near open headers. They claim that the inserts do not really reduce the noise until the engine warms up.
Re: Looking for member in Texas developing muffler for Hooker Sidepipe!!!!!! (Chris A)
I have a pair of CC inserts in my 4" Hooker tubes and let me tell you, they DO NOT get any quieter when they warm up. They are LOUD!!!! Painfully loud!! They are almost as loud as open headers. I even got the 3 disk, "street" version. I would not recommend them to anyone but a road racer or drag racer who runs at tracks without noise control.
However,
I just bought my Spiral Turbo Specialties baffles yesterday. I drove up to Jim's house to hear how they sounded on his 383. And I was VERY impressed. They make the car sound the way the car SHOULD sound. Very nice rumble. I'm installing mine this weekend on my '68 (with a '70 LT-1 350) and will let evyone know how they sound.

Mike, if you used the 4" inserts and do not have a 700 hp 450+ CI enging, they will not do much. This is why I'm going to have to fabricate a muffler body for a 3" insert to fit into my 400+ HP 383.
They have db measurements on their web site and they are very comparable with "normal" mufflers. They are also located about 1 hour away from me and I'll make a trip down there before I do anything.
