Hi, I am working on a frame off, and need a few suggestions. Right now I have a 383 block put together(no top end), stock rear end, and th-350 trans with shift kit.
I need to figure out how to get the to all work together. How much HP could the th-350 handle, and with what gears? I am thinking of a lower gear. I am assuming I will need to do something with the torque converter and stall?
Any suggestions will be appreciated, this is my first rebuild, and do not know very much about this. The car will be mainly a street car.
Well with all the guys here running 383's I'm sure you'll get a few responses. Most of the diff's I built for 383's are teamed with OD trannies. Your TH350 will be 1:1 final gear so keep in mind where you want to be running, cruise RPM vs MPH.
I think a nice street set up would be built Th350 with a 2400 RPM stall & 355 gears. Of course this is only my opinion, I would look at where the engine is going to make it's power.
As for the diff I would build it as I do with all my jobs, which I have documented in several posts. The rebuild post is still up. There is no way I'd use a stock type rebuild but again that is your choice.
Good luck and keep me posted on what you end up doing. Are you capabale of doing the diff? I can supply you with all the parts I use and coach you through the job.

Thanks for the tips. I was thinking about doing it, but I am pretty busy, and want to get rolling. If it's something I can do in a weekend, I will consider it. Right now it's a tossup. I am pretty confident with my mechanical skills, so I am sure I am capable, (with the right tools).
You will need a press, access to a surface grinder, 0-10 in/lb dial TW,engine stand, haed porting kit, and some press tools. I put about 25 hours into each one so I don't know if you'll be able to do this in a weekend? Of course there are plenty of shops that do them in 5 hours so you can take your pick on how the job will be done. I would you not to rush into this until you are sure which direction you plan on going in.

I am considering it.... I kind of want to do it on my own. If I had a press, I would be all for it.
Everyone else is welcome to chime. I appreciate the help.
