Spring Popping sound
I am getting the strangest sound from the drivers side front of my 77 corvette. It is the sound of a spring popping. This happens when I am driving over speed bumps and around corners at speed of about 0 to 15 mph. Above that, I don't get the sound at all. When I have a friend jack the car up and I hold my hand on the spring, I can DEFINETELY feel the spring "popping". It is like it is stuck on something and finally slips over it and that is when the noise is made and the vibration is felt with my hand.
While I was under there, I noticed that the sway bar bushings appear to be for a larger sway bar and there is also no lower control arm bump stop on the drivers side. Not sure if that has anything to do with it since the noise happens in compression and decompression of the suspension.
I also removed the spring and it looks to be in fine shape and I couldn't see anything strange in the pockets. I did notice that there were no spring pads on the top or the bottom, not sure if they are supposed to be there or not.
Has anyone else had this problem or have an idea of what is causing the noise? It is driving me crazy cause my development has 6 speed bumps between me and the exit.
