Looking at a race prepped block locally that is half filled.....
All I know is that it stiffens the block for racing, but would like more info please. Would a half fill be OK for the street? Oil/coolant overheat issues durring extend use? Can it ever be removed? Enlighten me guys....

I did a half fill in the last block that was in my vette. Reason was I had two sleeves put in and the fill stiffened the lower portions of the cylinders. I had no issues with temps. It cannot be removed once it's in there.
I'm thinking of doing this for a 400 block I have too by filling up to the freeze plugs. I wouldn't have any reservations about doing this for a race motor but was wondering how many were using this on the street and how it was working out for them.
It is a very good idea when you you use 3.875 or 4 inch stroker cranks. I never had heat issues. You have to think about how only the upper part of the cylinder wall is subjected to the heat of the gas firing.

I didn't read your post entire post, I thought you wanted to fill the block you had already. I have no experience with half filled blocks so I can't give you any advice. I do know you see them on the track all the time, but not so common on the street
Filling a block strenghtens it, my reccomendations are to use HardBloc since to the best of my knowledge it's the only one compatable with antifreeze. a half, or short fill is to the bottom of the freeze plugs and personally i'd reccommend it on anything making over 500ft/lbs or above 7k rpms since it will keep the block from twisting and make the crank live longer. don't worry about overheating, for the most part heat is only made in the first inch of the bore, you'll have about 2.5 or more of anti freeze to keep it cool, if your really worried about it get a high flow water pump

Everything I have been able to find is that filling it up to the freeze plugs is just fine in a street car. I fully intend to do it when I send my block to be machined and prepped.
