Were these made out of SMC or old-style fiberglas (1977)? I need to do some repairs/modifications to mine.

I'm pretty sure they were SMC. When I pulled mine I sanded it all down and it was the same color as the body panels so I'm assuming SMC.

Mine has a mouse-chewed hole on one half that needs to be patched, and I want to section the other side to fit the larger C4 fan without a spacer. As an added benefit, that surgery unshrouds the evaporator, so that more air flows over it.
