Default battery drain

I did some searching in old threads but still have a question about a battery drain. My battery will drain within one day if I don't disconnnect the neg battery cable. I tested btwn the neg cable while unhooked and the actual neg battery terminal using a volt meter. It read -12.51 when I have the #10 red wire (power supply)attatched to the horn relay and the double wire red and blk also being attached to the horn relay. I get a reading of -5.0 when the #10 red wire is attahced and only the alternator wire is attached. Any help / suggestions on where to start. ...BTW I did unplug the light dimmer switch and the ammeter and the readings are the same.
Thanks

You need to be checking the amperage there. I would start by unpluging all of the alternator wires. Then plug each back up. If your draw goes away with them unplugged , you have a diode problem in the alternator. That, the clock, and the interior light dimmer are the most common problem areas.
