Default 72 Corvette hood question/

A friend of mine recently purchased a 1972 red Corvette in excellent condition. All the numbers matched and it had low miles. The lucky dog.... I noticed the hood on this vette was one like the one I saw on an Lt 1 however my friends was a standard 200 HP four speed with air.
For those of you in the know did the 72's come with different hoods. According the the vin numbers it wa built in St. Louis, Mo.

I'd appreciate any insight into this puzzle.

Thanks,

I own a 1972 Mille Miglia Red coupe that, when purchased, had the base engine. If your friend's car has the base engine, the hood will not be the same as an LT1. It will look like this one (pic borrowed from jake1 as posted in another thread):

The Big Block hoods may have been different but the standard 350 hood looks like the one in the above pic.

Yep..there's the standard or BBlock/LT-1 hood for 72. 71 had another hood for the LS-6.

My '72 LT-1 had a larger, raised type hood.
