putting together spring to do list in the middle of this March storm on the east coast. Would like to hear what other folks are using for headers and your satisfaction or disatisfaction. I have a 69 smallblock 4spd.
I have Hooker side mount headers and Hooker chrome side pipes. I like them, have been lucky enough to never burn myself, and I can still hear out of my left ear. They make the car look amazing, and the sound is puuuuurfect.
I Had A Set Of Flow- Techs On My 76. They Sounded Nice And Did Improve Performance.they Were Ceramic.a Little Tough To Install Because Of Clearences And Getting Someone To Weld The Colectors On.
I also have a SB 4-speed. I just removed my Hooker headers and I love the new sound of the motor - great motor sounds in front and exhaust sound in rear - the way it should be. And, oh yeah, it's about 400 degrees ?? cooler in the foot wells.

you just removed them? were they shorties or normal length? i have a full dual magnaflow system but stock exhaust manifolds and i am looking for a good set of headers that will fit and i think i need shorties...
I have Hedman longtube hedders with true dual exhaust. I love them but they drag coming out of the driveway. Of course, cannot wait to get Hooker sidemount pipes from jetHot with STS baffles later this year.
yes the lady in the avitar is very beautiful, but she is asking about headders and i think we should respect her enough to answer her question. i just picked up a set of jet hot hooker sidepipes and i like the way they look. i dont have them on yet but i will post up a vid and my opinion soon. they also have the maxflow muffs.
For sidepipes or regular headers? I have dynomax headers, black. Going to swap for their ceramic coated version. Good fitment no ground clearance issues.
reasonalby priced.
I had gotten a good deal on used d-port long tubes, but didn't like the way-low clearance. I just purchased Patriot ceramic coated block huggers to replace them, and they should also allow direct bolt-in of my 2 1/2" replacement stainless exhaust without any major modifications.
It comes down to looks, performance, and price. Have fun! It's a vette, it will run and sound great with any header. There are even sites with sound clips of diffferent headers and exhaust to listen to.

I have Dynamax, ceramic, 1 5/8 long tube headers on mine. They provide good ground clearance, easy fit, no leaks at the heads or collectors, they were cheap (about $250 from Jegs), and they cut about 2 tenths off my et's compared to manifolds and full duals. But I also changed to Magnaflow mufflers at that time.
I'm running Hooker super comps with my 408 because I need the larger primary tubes. If your running a stock or mildly modded engine I would look closely at Stans headers. Do a search, someone recently installed these and posted pics.
I just put in Hooker Super Comp headers. Had to replace my Headmans because I swapped engines and they would not fit with the angle spark plugs heads from the new engine. They went in easily and look great, but I have'nt had the opportunity to fire it up and listen to the sweet sound yet.
Hooker Super Comps on my 385 SB. I had the regular 1 5/8 tube Hooker Comps tha tworked very well also but needed the bigger tube on my stroker. Both sets have been Jet Hot coated. They look like new after years of use.
I have Dynomax, ceramic, 1 5/8 long tube headers on mine.
Same here, the best part is with the 1-5/8" primaries you can fit lock washers on all the bolts. I haven't had one loose header bolt or burned exhaust gasket since I put it together in '99.
I just bought and received Dynomax ceramic from Jeg's. Have not installed yet. There are some scratches in the coating and I am debating whether to send them back.
