Default windshield frame replacement

I am going to replace the upper part (2 corners and top rail) of the windshield frame on my 69 coupe. I was wondering if I should drill out the spot welds or try to get in there with a cut off wheel. If I drill out the welds what I want to do is locate the holes on the new pieces and weld fill the holes to make it look like a spot weld. If I cut the spot welds I can either drill holes through the new pieces and pillars then weld fill or just spot weld the seams. According to my manual there doesn't seem to be too many spot welds holding the frame together.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on this.

Just replaced both corners on mine (Doc Rebuild about $58.00 each) they fit like a glove except one end on each had to be trimmed about one inch. The way that you described was exactly how my body guy did it. Not many spot welds on each, he used an air chisel to get the old ones out and pre drilled holes in the new corners then filled them when he welded them in. The job looks like new and it really stiffend up my windshield frame.

That sounds like the route I am going to take. Which side of the corners did you have to trim, the top rail or pillar sides? What size hole did you pre drill. Did the top rail have to be replaced on yours? With my it has to be replaced aswell. However, the replacement part doesn't have the cut out for the centre piece. Wondering if you used the old top rail as a template for cutting the section out.

Thanks
