I have just finished painting and colorsanding my t-tops. now what kind of stuff am i supposed to use for buffing them out?? ive looked at homedepot, lowes, oreilies, autozone, wamart, everywhere a can think of and nobody seems to have any buffing compound that i can use with an electric buffer. does anybody know of the exact name of the stuff i need and where to get it??
Ok so i need to look for some 3M stuff. now is this a special compound used specifically for buffing the clearcoat itself? or is it a multiuse on wa and all finishes stuff.
actually if anyone know wxactly what it was called that would be a huge help so i have an idea!
I like 3M's Perfect-it compound and a yellow foam pad for your electric buffer. It will work well to rub out your clear coat if your final color sand was with 1500 or 2000 grit.

Agree. Go to a auto paint shop and get 3M products. I would avoid the retail chain products. Perfect it is a good product.
Meguires is another name brand product that is used for buffing and polishing paint.
I might suggest using an orbital buffer polisher as opposed to a rotary buffer. You can burn thru paint pretty easy with a rotary buffer. With either stay away from edges or corners. You can actually tape them off if that will help.
Yellow foam pad is a good choice to start. You can work with Meguires #3 to start. That is a buffing compound and fairly mild. Finish with Meguires #5 or #7, which ever your auto paint store sells. Both of these are polishes and will bring the shine out.
Go slow and use the orbital on slow to meduim speed, no hi-speed.
You will get good results and be pretty happy with yourself.
Sand with 2500 paper. Use the 3m perfect it compound on the white foam pad. Then use finesse it on the black foam pad. I bought some meguiars compound for rubbing the new paint on my truck. It didn't work good at all. I had to go over it with the 3m to get my shine back.
wet/dry paper is different. There is a 2500 and there is a metric 2500.
The metric is a lot courser than the other. Make sure you get the finer stuff like that made by 3m
