Assembling Center Guages
What is the order of assembly?
1. nut on each threaded post after it passes through the gauge pan
2. resistor (where applicable)
3. printed circuit board
4. nut on each threaded post
I bought a set of used '79 gauges of eBay and combined them with what I had to complete my center gauges. Since then, I have blown the ground lead on the PCB from the wiring harness to the fuel gauge, which pisses me off because the PCB was brand new.
Are there suppose to be two nuts on each post sandwiching the PCB between them?
That I do not know. I installed them and did not take them apart. I didn't have stock gauges to check. I bought that '81 cluster on Ebay and installed it.
I just finished up restoring most things on my 81. i put a new center CB in and took pics before and after. I will post them when i get home. I will also check to see what is under the nuts. BTW - i also replaced the lights with LED's - dash lights only not the warning lights.

That would be great. Thanks.
After much thought, I think I know what the problem is. I think I have nuts under the porcelain resistors and on the posts without them. Essentially, I'm both powering the metal pan and grounding it at the same time, blowing my fuse, and a hole in my new circuit board.
Here is the picture of the before. I found i had a break in the circuit board where the Clock would be - i have the oil temp gauge. the board is bent up with tape and it had cracked.
Here it is after:
let me know which nuts you want to have checked for spacers or contacts. i will have it out till the end of the week.

I'm feeling kind of like an idiot. I checked last night and the voltage gauge has the nuts under the porcelain. Nothing like directly shorting out your electrical system. :o
