Transmission Mount Removal
I have a '68 427/390 with a 4 speed manual transmission. Engine is out of the car but I left the transmission and bellhousing in the car. Is it possible to remove the transmission mount without completely removing the tranny from the car. I am thinking I may be able to support the front of it with a jack then remove the transmission mount bolts, support the rear of the tranny and remove the tranny mount and then rest the rear of the tranny on the frame. Then I could measure my mount and get a replacement.

I'm having a lot of trouble picturing how this tranny is still in the car without an engine to support it. I assume there is already a jack under the front? As long as you have taken the weight off the front and rear of the tranny, go ahead and loosen the bolts from the rear tranny bracket and remove it from the crossmember. Next loosen the rubber mount and remove. The tranny can be jacked up a little to remove the rear mount. It would also be a good idea to disconnect the drive shaft in case you decide to lower the transmission.
