Battery Light On

I Have A Question, 1980 When I Remove The Key From The Switch The Battery Light Remains On. So I Must Remove OnE Of The Battery Cables. Does Anyone Have Any SUGESTIONS For Me To Look For?

Pull the field plug out of the alternator, and see if it goes out.
