Default BB Fuel piump pipe plug

When now I've done it. The pipe plug which allows the fuel pump rod to slide out is frozen and I've rounded it off two corners. Have sprayed PB blaster but it won't budge. Any suggestions? Might end up having to go the electric pump route with a block off plate if I can't get it loose.

My recommendation is to purchase a bolt extractor kit. Check this one out at the Summit Racing website. I have used them to remove frozen water jacket drain plugs on engine blocks. Should be able to drill a hole in yours and use the extractor. Part number, price and description below. Hope this helps.

You can buy sockets made for square drive plugs. I have a set, but since 2 corners are already rounded off, these may or may not take it out.

Several times I've had plugs that wouldn't come out. I took an acetylene torch and heated the plug red hot then let it cool. Once cooled, the plug is very easy to remove, but this may not be an option for you.

Why do you need to get the pushrod out?

I don't necessarily need to get the rod out, but it slid down when I took the old pump off and now I can't get it back up into its housing to allow me to put the new pump in.

Bashcraft made an excellent point; be careful of the fuel stuff and use some heat. Always help ease things out. 71LS5Stingray

Do you mean that you can't push it up at all, or you can push it up but it won't stay there? If you can push it up, put some grease on it first, that should make it stick up there until you get the pump on.

Bashcraft is all over it. Smear some grease on the fuel pump rod and push it back up. It will hold in place while you install the new pump. Later

I can't push it up at all...Once I get it up I am familiar with the grease trick, but has slid down all the way to where the plug is and there is no way to get a grip on it

You are implying the big block is in the car. Is that correct?

Use a small screwdriver against the side of the rod and push the rod back in to place,..small because there's not much room down there. It's not stuck,..it's just slippery.

Is there any other American car from our era more difficult to work on than a BB Vette?

I gave up on the pipe plug and used a small screwdrive as you suggested to lift it up so I could get my finger under it. I greased it up so it would stay up there for a sec or two, long enough to get the fuel pump back in.

The pipe plug is stuck in there for good!!
