I changed out 4 differant signal switch/collars. If the lever moved a small amount either up or down, the tail lights would blink through the hazard relay. There are two types being sold, junk and repop.Kind of sounds like you may have miss-aligned something. Do you still have the big spring under the hub installed? Are all three cam screws in? Shooting in the dark here....
I'm going to be doing the same repairs very soon. I've scanned over the diagrams and Jim Shea's papers but haven't removed any parts yet. I'd really like to know what you guys are talking about. Any pictures would help!
Do you have a standard (non-adjustable) column or a T&T? I take it from your signature that you have a 1972 car and steering column?
When you say cancelling cam, do you mean the round plastic thing with brass contacts that sits underneath the locking plate? Some people rebuild the actual turn signal switch with a plastic part that is also called a cancelling cam.
Have you looked at my Disassembly & Repair Papers?
Hi, Yes it is a 72 with a standard column. My old cancel cam was broken, the tube thing was disintegrated. It is the green thing with copper/brass and a thin black plastic ring.
Only thing I'm doubting is the metal plate, it only fitted one side. I dont have the appropriate tool for it. If that plate is tighter I think my issue is fixed. Does any one have a picture of the up side?
I have replaced mine and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I think it is just one of those issues you learn to live with and cancel it yourself. It is very touchy on the position you put the cam. After taking the steering wheel apart several times I just gave up!
