I have a 1970 Vette and would like to find a tele / tilt steering column to install in the car. I have seen a few go on ebay for 300 to 100 bucks. Which years will fit? How much is a fair price on an intact column. Anything to look for or be weary of ? thanks
69 to 77 will fit 77 had the washer and high beam switches added to the column. However the 78 to 82 can be made to fit by cutting back the lower shroud. These columns have skyrocketed on ebay. I have seen them bring $800.00. So if you can find one thats good for 300.00 thats a steal.
I believe columns from 69 to 75 are direct fits for your 70, and yes as described above, you can make other years work. Also, I doubt you'd find a good T/T column for $100-300. Figure in the $300-500 range or more.
It was painted to match my interior. I had sent an ignition key, so it came back with a new lock cylinder that matched the keys I had. They also included the additional parts required for the swap (horn button etc). It also came with brand new turn signal, and tilt levers.
The price was very reasonable for what I recieved, and I have absolutely no reservation in recommending them. I just wish all of the other vendors I have dealt with were this competent.
Corvette Steering doesn't have any in stock (ask me how I know) - and if they did, they charge $1200.
They're very hard to find - if you do find one that's in good to excellent condition, expect to pay over $800 (and then you'll also have to pay for any additional restoration that it needs).

If you don't mind me asking. How much did you pay?
I too got a fully rebuilt T/T column from Tom (www.corvettesteering.com), it came with a new levers, harness and sockets, horn button and painted to match my interior. The time taken from unwraping the column to have the car driven for a test was around 4 hours (with few breaks). I saved my self the time for searching a good column, the rebuild work, the new parts needed, and the paint, above all, I got it from a man who only work with steering equipment and he did a brilliant job. I paid $1200 for it.
I believe it was $1195 shipping included. For that, I received a completely rebuilt, ready to install column, with all of the extra parts needed to do the swap. I took about 3 weeks to get the new one. A big part of the cost is not having one to exchange. Their rates for rebuilding one (if you could find one in a junk yard) are competitive with other shops I checked. I just could not find a used one cheap enough to be worth the trouble of buying a used one, shipping it out, and having it rebuilt. Having all of the other parts needed for the swap was a great help.
