I am wondering if anyone here has the hooker header side pipes mounted on an EFI sbc engine. If any one does ... just where did you install the O2 sensor?
I know one guy that put his outside about where the side vent is. Look carefully, you can see it in this photo, you'll probably need to zoom in. It's a really bad location to be effective.
Pictures are worth a thousand words, and that one shows what I don't want to have to do. I was hoping that there was a way to hide the O2 sensor. I don't think the distance will be to far for the wideband O2 I will be using, but if I can't hide it from view some how I will have to rethink my exhaust system. Which really sucks, because I truly love the look of those side pipes.
I don't think it can be done without drilling a big hole in the frame for the sensor.
If it's any consolation, side pipes don't flow for beans. Search for a recent thread about this very subject. Some engines, probably big blocks, took a 100hp hit.

Stock sidepies hurt HP. Patriot sidepipes also. Neither flow well. Hooker Super competition sidepipes Have 1 7/8 ports, equal length primaries and dump into a 4" tube. They flow just fine. The big HP loss would come from putting a reverse flow or glasspack insert in them. Put Max Flows or Turbo spiral baffles in them they are one of the best performance exhausts available.

I don't have a pic with me right now but I installed mine at the collector at about the 4 o'clock position (looking from the end of the collector), they just clear the frame, its not the best place for O2 sensor life but it works. I don,t have EFI, I use them for my O2 meters.
Thanks for the info Neal. I did some searching on jegs and found this little bit of info
Sidemount Headers
1963-82 Corvette SBC 265-400
1-7/8" Primary Tubes
4" Collector
High Temp Black Paint
520-2224
Hooker mufflers #520-21021 (glass pack) or #520-21002 (reverse flow design for maximum sound control)or #520-21046 Max Flow sidepipe muffler, slip-in design to be used with 4" sidetubes.
Installation requires #520-10922 for mounting alternator/generator on right side.
Will not fit angle plug heads. Available with fitting to accommodate oxygen sensor.
Now to just figure out where hooker is putting the O2 at ..hmmm

The primary tubes on these are 1/8 inch smaller than the dual exhaust opening on a stock Base engine small block dual exhaust. You have 8 of these equal length. They flow just fine I have seen posts on EFI and hookers and also some have welded an O2 sensor bung into there hookers. I want a bolt in adaptor for my chrome hookers. If anyone has done this or knows where to get one or how to do it, chime in!!
The sensor is supposed to be at the 2:00 or 10:00 position minimum otherwise water can collect and ruin it, according to my Holley install manual. I have never seen a sensor on a factory car installed pointed downward, so there must be some truth to this.
Thanks VetteNut72, those pics have shown me just which way to go with my exhaust system. Jegs is getting an order for the hookers in the very near future.

well I am just getting out of buick grand nationals and the factory location on those is roughly 5:00. So i am not so sure that there will be any issue with a 3:00 or 9:00 position. Just curious is your holley system use a wideband sensor?

Unless you have your heart set on Hookers, Stahl headers have the collector more or less under the framerail behind the tire. Far better made header than Hookers and make more power.
