To all,
Last year I purchased a 1980, L48, AT, AC, C3. It needs a lot of work, but it looks good on the outside. I'm currently replacing the front springs. I received the new ones that I ordered from NAPA. After removing the first one I compared the two and found that the old spring is 2" taller the the new spring. The coil wire on the old spring measures .610 dia. and the new measures .655 dia. My question is are the new springs they sent me the right ones? Has technology changed the height requirement? I don't care to do this job all over again, it has been challanging to say the least. I'm also replacing the control arm bushings and ball joints, tie rod ends is for another day.
I have read this forum several times, gaining good info on the repairs to my car, it is the best. Thanks for your help.
I just rebuilt the front end on my 72 using Moog springs. The new springs are about 2 inches shorter but a larger diameter coil. The installation instructions that came with the springs said that the replacement springs are shorter but the car would sit at the correct ride height. I haven't put the engine back in my car yet so I don't if the ride height is correct. The shorter springs should work fine. Bob
I just finished thr front rebuild on my 80, I got the complete rebuild kit from Zip and the springs were a different height than the ones I pulled out and the difference was like yours, but I put the new ones in and the height when it is on the ground is exactly what it was before,I had the same question but all is fine!!
