Default Advice needed on performance heads

I am thinking of doing a head and cam swap this winter. As i have a limited budget, and the choice of heads here in the UK is not overwhelming, i need your advice on which of the following heads i should go with.
Dart S/R Torquer
Dart Sportsman 2
GM Vortec cast iron
at a pinch i could stretch to the Edelbrock Performer RPM heads.
what do you think?
thanks
David

Suggest alum heads (GM or Edelbrock) and Comp Cam 268 for street use.

We appreciate UK's support in Afg.

Best Regards,Will

There are a couple of pluses for aluminum heads. They dissipate heat better, so you can run slightly higher compression, and you can repair them. If cast heads happen to crack, they are garbage. I think whichever head you choose should match your camshaft and intended usage. If you go overboard on your port sizes, your motor will run like crap on the street. Talk to the head and cam manufacturers. They are usually very knowledgable and helpful. Maybe better to talk to the cam makers, as they won't try and sell you their heads ;) .

Well, it's your lucky day. I received my new Chevy High Performance mag today and they have a head test on all of the popalur heads. Buy a copy. it's a great mag.

Depends greatly on how far you are planning to take your engine build too. If mild, the SR torquers would be a great choice. If beyond mild, the Sportsman will be versatile enough to perform well in both mild to wild phases. The Sportsmans are a very easy 50 hp or more out-of-the-box bolt-on. I've heard porting produces excellent results too. Good luck!

David

For mild 350, Dart S/R Torquer or GM Vortec.
For larger CI or higher power setups, larger heads like Dart Sportsman 2.

Thanks for the advice guys.
I reckon that i will probably go with the Sportsman 2 heads. Will these perform well straight out the box or do i need to do any porting?

Paul 75 I haven't seen the magazine you refer to here in the UK.Could anyone scan the article and e-mail it to me?
Thanks again for the advice
