Guys;
Any cooling system guru's out there?

I have '75 auto with AC and I recently spotted a drip of green coolant on the front left corner slope of the passenger footwell, it's leaking from somewhere behind the dash.

I've not taken the dash off yet or examined it in great detail, as I'm dealign with the rear end and a rebuild that's going to happen there very soon, so while the car's off the road for the next couple of weeks I'd like to sort this leak.

The AC compressor belt rotor doesn't seem to want to idle properly when turned off and has chewed a belt once, so now it's left on all the time and the AC isn't set to much of a high level at all.

Any guesses where the fluid would be likely to be leakign before I start getting embroiled in the dash?

Thanks.

the others are right, if you are like me and dont really need a heater then just run a bypass hose from the intake to the waterpump and forget about it. i have gone through one too many and it never really gets cold here anyway so i dont really need it.

I just did my heater core this w/e. It wasn't all that bad, but I already had the dash out. There are about 6 screws that hold the heater core box on the firewall, if you pull the pass side dash out you can get all of them. It comes off from the inside

As said ... it's probably the heater core or hose/valve adjacent to it. At some point you just might need or want a heater/defroster ... so you need to fix it. Until then ... you should bypass it by running a short length of NEW heater hose between the WP & IM ... then gently purge the heater sytem w/ air ... that'll keep the coolant off your carpet until you can fix it right.

BTW ... a tiny heater core drip can instantaneously become a gusher ... all of a sudden lotsa steam & vapor & completely fogged windshield ... can be dangerous ... take some action now. Not a guru but been there, done that.

As for the AC chewing belts when compressor off (if I understand you) ... sounds as though your AC compressor's CLUTCH BEARING is bad ... so install a NEW clutch or new compressor with clutch.
