Hey all, This is my first post here. I have a question, My dad bought a 78 Pace Car new, and sold it back in 1985, I would like to find the same car and buy it back. This is the same car I was brought home from the hospital in as a new born, and my mom and dad went on thier honey moon in. I want to buy it back, and restore it(if it needs it) then give it to my father as a birthday present. I have all of the original paper work( owners manual, order forms, Build sheets...ect..ect..ect.) and the VIN number. I have tried to use CARFAX, but their services only go back to 1981. How do I go about finding this car? Thank you in advance Mike
woah...giving it as a birthday present...what a great jeasture. I don't know what to tell you about finding the car, unless you try the DMV, but I just wanted to say that is probably one of the coolest things I have ever heard of.
Daniel
EDIT: Perhaps you can post your VIN on here. Maybe someone on the forum ended up with your car...its unlikely, but its possible, or maybe they know of someone who has it. I don't know how much luck you'll have getting it from someone, but everyone can be bought.
97Z, THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. Do it, here is what I did. Call the State Capitol and ask to speak to some one in The Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Office of Motor Vehicles. Tell them what your after. They gave me and address and told me to send $10.00 and a letter stating what you are after with the VIN number. Be patient, it will take MONTHS, but it was worth it. Now, WILL SOMEBODY GIVE THIS MAN THE INFO FOR THE 78 REGISTRY, thats worth a try too. He is on a very worth wild mission.
Do you have any idea who he sold it to? That would be a good place to start. Otherwise a very difficult detective task. As you have discovered there is no centralized database for older cars. Many state DMVs will not give you any info due to recent privacy laws... some will, some wont, so it sure helps if you have a clue as to which state to start with. MJ
Hey, Im gonna see if one of my friends can run the VIN frm his police cruiser. If that does'nt work, ill go through the state records like you said. Ive been wanting to look for this car for a long time. And it would be great If I could acctually find it.
Also, I am in the market for a 70's vette, that needs restored, how much am I looking at spending? I don't care what the engine is like, or the body,(just as long as it's not horrible) It will be restored from the frame up. I don't want to spend a lot of money on the initial purchase. Ill post another thread about this topic later
