Default oil pressure high?

well since I had my 76' corvette my oil pressure gauge always pointed straight up. But after today I opened her up on the freeway, and now the oil pressure gauge goes up to 60-80. did I break something? Or is this normal?

Oh and when I brought it back to the garage I opened the hood to reveal no leaks...

My best guess is that your higher speed raised the oil pressure high enough to move the pressure relief plunger that may have been stuck a little with carbon. Just keep an eye on it.

Looks like this might be the place to ask a similar question. I recently purchases a 77 Vette and immediately had the oil changed (it was too cold to drag out the ramps and do it myself in January.). Have done some work on brakes, power steering pump, etc and just started driving it much and I noticed last week when I pull up ot a stop light with the transmission in Drive my oil pressure has started to up similar to VETLIBITO. If I kick it to neutral it goes back to straight up. Do I have a problem or is it just similar. No leaks or anything else seems abnormal.

I wouldn't sweat it, at least you have oil pressure. My 76 has always had 60 lbs plus ever since I got it and it's a stock engine. No problems.
