I am seriously considering 383 street machine crate engine from them. I have heard a few good things and some very bad things (mostly cust service and having incorrect parts installed). I was told to ask in here as some of you might have an engine from them. Any comments/suggestions/b**ches/moans/gripes???? Thnx
Re: ATTN: ANYBODY WHO HAS USED SPEEDOMOTIVE (dtorc4)
There is some kind of issue that I read about in Corvette Fever about the vortec heads in a C4 (see my 1st post). I think it has something to do w/ the height of the heads... any info on this??
Re: ATTN: ANYBODY WHO HAS USED SPEEDOMOTIVE (dtorc4)
I have a SpeedOMotive engine in my vette. I bought a short block 383 StreetMaster motor from them. The block I got was a 1969 vintage 3956618 bored .060 over thus a 388CI. It took me about 7 weeks to get the motor. I had to put a couple of helicoils in the holes for the heads for the stock bolts would not torque to the spec's. Besides that, everything looked good. They suggested I used so new ARP head bolts for the are longer, but I used some helicoils I had. I put on my Trick Flow heads, performer air gap intake and 650 carb on it and the motor screams......
as soon as you hit it the response is instant and crisp.
I still have the body off so I only get to run it on the frame, but it sounds great. They were a little slow on refunding me for the engine crate return but a short phone call rectified that.

The exhaust ports are .200" higher than other heads. This would make header that much higher in car position making the exhaust connection a new pipe or bend.

I have a 427 4-bolt big block that I ordered from them in short block form. No complaints or problems. I had ordered the short block unassembled, but they had gone ahead and assembled it without apparently charging me. I at least plastigaged the mains and it's a nice tight engine. Haven't run it yet but it looks fine.
No problems.
Re: ATTN: ANYBODY WHO HAS USED SPEEDOMOTIVE (dtorc4)
I bought their 388 short block. Upon going over the assembly, I found one piston which sat "cocked" in the cylinder bore. After calling them and trying a couple of things, I took out the rod/piston and sent it in. They promptly sent me a replacement which fixed my problem.
I have just fired it up and have some carb problems to work through, but I have no other real complaints.

I bought their "383 Budget Kit" and have been very happy with the finished product. Although I only got to drive my car for two days before I delivered it to my paint/body guy. Very strong running and very tight. As for customer service, I was treated with kit gloves because I honestly don't know poopie about aftermarket upgrades. Their staff was very patient and went over every detail, twice !!! They did not charge me for shipping because I bought all of the odds and ends from them. :D My experience was very positive.

Thanks for your responses guys. I have heard a few negative things about this company, but these responses are sure relieving. Anybody else want to put their $0.02 in??
I was very interested in the Speedomotive motor, but got talked out of it on Camaroz28.com. THere were some nightmare stories of ineptiude, bad products and bad service on that board.
If i had read the posts here fist, I might have bought one from them.
But I was in a crunch for build time.
Both the motors I bought off ebay have been "OK" so far but having been around the wheel a couple of times now the GM crate motors, with all new parts, warranties, READY TO SHIP!!! etc, look pretty darn attractive.
The deluxe 350 and ZZ4 have forged steel cranks etc.
They look pretty good.
