Default hood clearance

72 manual, LS48 engine.

I added a Edelbrock 650 carb w/electric choke but used a spacer to go from square bore to spread bore. My drop down aircleaner fits with a KN 3" filter, but if I put on an elite edelbrock air cleaner the hood will not close. I can continue to use the old cover with with a 7/16 bolt going down rather that the wing nut.

Any thoughts?

My first thought is to go with a smaller filter but the aircover sits on top of the choke.

second thought is to change out the intake manifold so that I can get rid of the spacer....suggestions on which one to get?

thanks for any suggestions.....rt

Are you running the stock cast iron intake? If so, I would change to an Edelbrock Performer EPS intake...it's designed specifically for their square bore carburetors. Their standard Performer would be a great alternative. Get one without the EGR and discard yours (if you're still running the EGR).

You should be able to run the air cleaner you have this way and get better performance.

I have the Performer Manifold, Holley 770 and Elite lid (round one as the triangle will not work on a stock hood) and 3" K&N and it just clears by 1/2" at the front passengers corner but everywhere else is great. If you want more power the Performer Air Gap is killer but you need a new hood like the BB's.

Do you have a stock 350 hood? I bought the triangle and when I tried to close it the hood it crushed the filter. Since the shop said it would work I returned the damaged goods and bought the round one.

Now for the reason the round Elite will work:
With the round air filter you can use a recessed base plate. Edelbrock does not make a recessed base plate for the triangle.

I trust it does work with your setup as you are using it but maybe you have a really low intake manifold, or a shorter carb. What intake and carb are you running?

Default On similar thoughts...

I have an edelbrock performer intake manifold, 600 performer carb and pro-flo cleaner under a stock hood for a '75. I was looking to swap out the pro-flo for the triangular filter :

This is mainly to prevent the risk of a backfire burning down my baby! I'd like to know if this one will fit or not before i buy...

thanks.

Tristan69, I am using the facotry 78 L82 hood, intake is an edelbrock performer EPS, carb is an edelbrock 600 performer w/electric choke. nothing special has been done to make it fit, the closest fit is the front point of the air cleaner, and it just clears the hood insulation probably buy an 1/8 of an inch, and the insulation is appx 1/2 inch. Heaven help me if a motor mount breaks though.

Pipervette, sounds like you have the same carb & intake that i have, and the triangle one works just fine. check out the pics i posted above, its close but it does not touch the hood insulation, just make sure your motor mounts are good.

Default thanks to one and all

I do have the stock manifold and the stock C3 hood. Those in the picture are higher than what I have for a hood. I will look at the standard Edlebrock performer.

It is always a pain when you change one part and end up changing 3...

again, all information is appreciated......rt

I'm probably wrong, but I believe that the early rubber-bumper cars (mid-'70s thru '79) have more standard hood-clearence that the small-block/chrome-bumper cars, and any of the '80-up C3s
